Hill Business Summit 2018 in Darjeeling

It was a homecoming for many of the prospective investors attending the Hill Business Summit in Darjeeling on 13th & 14th March 2018, others talked of strong bonds with the Queen of the Hills. The two-day-long business summit commenced on a very positive note at Darjeeling Chowrasta on Tuesday. For Chandrajit Banerjee, director general, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), co-organiser of the business summit, it was a homecoming. "My grandfather had started his business in Darjeeling. Later, my father shifted the business and migrated to Kolkata," stated Banerjee. The DG added that West Bengal is fast emerging as a global destination. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in Darjeeling on Monday to flag off the two-day historic Hill Business Summit, beginning on March 13. Once projected as an immensely disturbed region politically, the Hills are witnessing a sea change under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This Hill Business Summit, the first-of-its-kind in the Hills and North Bengal, is being considered a peace initiative and is expected to bring in great hope for reviving the trade and industries of the region. The Bengal chief minister on Tuesday inaugurate the first ever business meet to attract investments to the Darjeeling hills whose economic mainstay is limited to tea and tourism sectors at present. Mamata Banerjee launched the two-day Hill Business Summit at Chowrastha here. The summit is being organised by the state government in collaboration with the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). "A total of 264 delegates attended the meet and approximately 2000 cr. investments proposal received ," said a GTA official.
